We spent the past 3 years living in NE Edmonton – and hated it!  Small yards, miles and miles of repetitive, big box stores. Neighbours didn’t or wouldn’t talk to us and would cross the street when they saw we were walking the dog.  Honestly, it was very lonely. On our 2nd day here the owners of Fas Gas knew our first names. Our neighbours had a COVID-19 properly spaced driveway beer. People say “Hi” when we’re out and people/children run TO not from the dog. We didn’t move to Calmar – We moved Home.

We’ve always loved being in the country and small towns. We seemed to be drawn to Calmar because we got more house for our budget and the location is great – not too far from the airport and not too far from Devon, Leduc, Nisku & Edmonton. We love it here and look forward to participating in the community events. Calmar is truly special because of all the towns and provinces we’ve lived in, no one has ever come to welcome us personally and with a gift bag.

I grew up in a rural community (near Winfield / Breton area). I’ve always loved small towns and the sense of a tight knit community. I work in Edmonton, so I wanted something not too far out, but also not too big. I had heard about New Humble re-opening as an Ag Charter School and thought it was a great opportunity for my children. For all of these reasons, along with the friendly people (and of course the donuts at the Calmar Bakery!!) Calmar felt like the right choice.

We moved to Calmar because we enjoy small towns. Where we were living was only 1200 people, so we wanted something similar. We also wanted to be close enough to Edmonton for work. Calmar just happened to be the perfect place. So far we really enjoy living here and everyone has been really friendly and welcoming.

It’s my old home town.  I went to high school here and we have friends and family in the area.  Also wanted to get out of the city with the crime, noise, traffic, photo radar and homeless problem into a quiet, peaceful, friendly atmosphere.  Housing pricing is much lower than Leduc or Edmonton and yet so close to the airport.

We chose to move to Calmar to be back around the family  and the Town has a lot to offer us as well as the cheaper housing market compared to Leduc.  After moving back home to Calmar from Leduc it was quickly noticed how much more peaceful it is being back in a smaller town and the people were all very welcoming.

We moved to Calmar, as we found a house that was barrier free wheelchair accessible. My partner suffered a stroke on January 23rd. We lived in Sherwood Park prior but our house at that time was not suitable! We are very familiar with Calmar as we used to have a trailer in Drayton Valley. We travelled through the town many times. We stopped often at the bakery, ice cream shop, bottle depot, gas stations, etc. We are loving this town and we both find the people very nice. A visit from the mayor really took us back, what a wonderful surprise. I am sure we will only love it more in time. Thank you for the warm welcome!!!

For years, we drove through Calmar on our way to Edmonton. Always stopped to eat and enjoyed the people we have met. It was time to downsize our home and we wanted to move closer to the grandchild but not too close. Enjoy the town and all is in walking distance to our home. Great places to eat, friendly, helpful people.

We chose Calmar for several reasons.  Mainly that it is conveniently located close to a large population center without having to live amidst the hustle and bustle of the City.  Everything we need is close by.  Also, a small town atmosphere and being more accessible to family and friends is very important at this stage of our lives.

Our Family was looking for a quiet and charming rural community close to Leduc. We down-sized, due to 3 of our children moving out and we found the perfect home here. The neighbours are friendly, there are great walking trails and surprisingly good amenities. The lot sizes are huge compared to the city. It is a welcoming community. We enjoyed Calmar Days and we are looking forward to creating more memories here!
